Organization may not sound like a very exciting subject, but I think I can show you a way to think about it that you will find a bit interesting.
But before I do, think about your own specific work habits. As you work to build your online business do you find that things run smoothly for you?
Or, are you constantly being held up because you can't find a particular file you may need, or a special bit of information, maybe an affiliate link, an email or whatever.
What about all that mail? Mail can be a major time waster if you can't find an organized manner in which to deal with it.
Where does the dollar value of organization come in?
If you are marketing online, you probably have a dollar goal that you want to make each month. Just for example, let's assume that you are fairly new to online business, and you have a goal of five thousand dollars a month. And let's further assume that you expect to put in 60 hours per month because you are still working an offline J--O--B.
With these figures in mind, your time is worth $83.33 per hour. Now that is something to think about the next time you are frantically looking for a piece of information you need to build a webpage, an article, a special report or whatever. Can you see the dollar value of organization? With your monthly goal in mind, every hour you have to waste due to the lack of organization is $83.33 down the drain, and that's a minimum.
The reason I say minimum,is that many of the things you set up today will in time pay you over and over for a one time setup.
Develop an organizational method that works for you
It is critical to use your time on income producing tasks, especially when you are trying to keep the hours worked to a minimum.
The way you organize your files, information, email and whatever else you commonly use in running your business will need to work for you. Your filing system doesn't have to be the same as anyone else. Develop an organization system that is simple, easy for you to use, and be diligent about using it. Be tough on yourself in the beginning and make sure you follow through with each item and in time organizing will become a natural habit.
We are now approaching the tax filing season. This is the time of year you will applaud yourself for maintaining good organization. In addition to filing information necessary to running an online business, it is also important to keep good track of receipts, documents and all necessary media for filing taxes. You certainly don't want to lose track of anything that could be a deduction.
Your online business is a business just the same as in the offline world. Run it like a business, keep it organized, and keep your sanity as well. Not to mention the $83.33 plus per hour.
